Everyone at Ability Dogs 4 Young People have been overwhelmed and thrilled at the response to White Stuff’s latest fundraising idea which has rasied over £1,000 for the Island charity.
White Stuff in Cowes has selected Ability Dogs 4 Young People as its Charity Partner and as part of the staff’s pledge to raise £16,000 for their local nominated charity, they held a ‘Thready Challenge’. Nimble fingered Islanders submitted sewn, decorated material patches and for each patch, White Stuff donated £5 to the disabled children’s charity, Ability Dogs 4 Young People.
There were over 220 entries from people of all ages, the oldest of whom was probably May, a 94-year-old former upholster. All the amazing patches were displayed in the shop’s window last Thursday, and they will be sewn together to make a fabulous quilt which will be donated to the charity.
Carol Court, Ability Dogs 4 Young People’s Founder and CEO said:
“White Stuff in Cowes is a fabulous Charity Partner. We had a great time taking part in this event. Our Puppy Parents and their friends enjoyed creating some of the patches and the overall display was fantastic. We are really looking forward to receiving this wonderful quilt.”
The winner was announced as Sonja Shortman from the Newport-based Earl Mountbatten Hospice Charity Shop. Sonja will receive a £50 White Stuff voucher and an exciting chance to win the regional competition prize of a crafting holiday for two in Italy.
Kirsty Munday, White Stuff’s Store Manager said:
“We are thrilled to have been supporting such a great charity since August 2015. So far we have raised an amazing £2045 with the support of our customers. The ‘Are you Thready?’ charity event has been the biggest fundraiser so far raising £1130 on top of our total! We were overwhelmed by the amount of entries so would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who submitted an entry”.
