Wight Tri’s summer series got underway at Totland last night (Friday), with competitors taking on choppy seas and drifting buoys in a challenging opening aquathon.
The lively conditions added an extra test for competitors, who completed either one or two 150m swim loops around strategically placed buoys before heading out on a 2.5km or 5km run to Colwell Bay and back.
Despite the conditions, the handicap competition proved incredibly close, with 5 athletes finishing within just a single minute of their predicted times.
Club Chair Lucy Doorly topped the standings, followed by Loic Le Floch, David Squirrell, Paula Griffiths and Sean Williams.
The event also welcomed several new members making their Wight Tri debuts, with the club extending a warm welcome to its latest recruits.
After crossing the finish line, competitors gathered for hot drinks and cakes to round off a successful evening.
The next event in the summer series is the Yaverland Aquabike on Friday 10th July. The event is open to all, with more information about taking part or joining the club available at wighttri.org.uk.
