Wight Tri athletes have enjoyed a successful spell of racing, with Helen Scholes and Liz Dunlop securing strong results at the World Triathlon Championship Finals in Pontevedra while Nick Curwood marked his return to competition with an overall victory at Hever Castle.
Scholes and Dunlop represented Great Britain in Pontevedra, where the pair recorded top-20 finishes, a world medal and 2 qualifications for the 2027 championships in Hamburg.
In Thursday’s Sprint race, Scholes finished 16th out of 55 competitors in the 60-64 age category.
Dunlop placed 6th in the world in the 70-74 category, a result which secured her first qualification for Hamburg 2027.
She returned to competition on Saturday for the Standard distance event and claimed a World Championship bronze medal.

Dunlop produced a strong swim before finishing with an impressive final-lap run to secure 3rd place.
Scholes completed her week on Sunday in the Mixed Relay, helping the Great Britain squad to a 17th-place finish after the team’s anchorman was involved in a late crash.
Meanwhile, Wight Tri’s Nick Curwood made a successful return to racing at the Hever Castle Super Sprint Triathlon.
Curwood took 1st place overall across the 200m swim, 12.8km bike and 2.6km run.
He completed the swim in 4:56 before tackling a hilly and technical bike course on a non-aero setup, recording a bike split of 32:08.
Despite suffering a calf problem during the run, Curwood completed the final leg in 12:29.
A late challenge from an Ironman athlete resulted in a sprint finish, but Curwood held on to win by 16 seconds with an overall time of 54:09.
