A serious crash has seen emergency services, including the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, respond to Military Road this afternoon (Wednesday).
It was just before 16:35 that police, fire and ambulance crews were alerted to the road traffic collision near Brighstone, close to the junction with New Road.
Specialist flying doctors and paramedics from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance have touched down at the scene to provide enhanced pre-hospital care to those involved.
The extent of the injuries sustained and the total number of casualties is currently unknown.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has at least 2 ambulance crews, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander on scene, with Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilising appliances from Newport and Freshwater.
Police have closed Military Road – the A3055 – in both directions.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area, diverting inland via Brook, Mottistone, Brighstone, Shorwell and Chale.
UPDATE @ 17:27 – It is understood a total of 3 vehicles have been involved, with at least 3 casualties reported to have sustained injuries.
Road closures are in place on Military Road and on New Road, Brighstone at the junction with Galley Lane.
