An incident in the heart of Sandown has led to a street being cordoned off tonight (Sunday) – with a male set to be flown to a mainland hospital for specialist treatment.
It was just before 19:55 that emergency services responded to Leed Street, to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service swiftly mobilised a critical care paramedic and an ambulance crew to the scene, supported by firefighters from Shanklin.
Police also rushed to the incident ground, between Grafton Street and Broadway.
Island Echo understands the collision has involved a male riding a Domino’s delivery scooter, who was thrown from his motorcycle after colliding with a wall.
He has sustained significant injuries and, as a result, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance touched down in Los Altos Park at around 20:25.
Flying medics are now tending to the injured rider and are expected to fly him to the mainland shortly, indicating the severity of the situation.
Leed Street has been closed to all motorists and pedestrians by Police.
UPDATE @ 21:35 – The injured male has been transferred directly to Southampton General hospital.
