A Ryde man who burgled a Wroxall convenience store, stole alcohol from a Ventnor Co-op and committed offences during an incident involving Police, has been handed a 12-month community order.
Daniel Skittlethorpe, of Union Road in Ryde, was sentenced at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court earlier this week (Tuesday), having previously admitted burglary other than dwelling, assault of an emergency worker and 3 counts of criminal damage.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Skittlethorpe broke into Central Stores in Wroxall during the early hours of 11th December 2025.
The 34-year-old used a painted rock to smash a window before entering the shop, cutting himself on shards of broken glass in the process. Splatters of blood were subsequently found on the shop floor.
Once inside, Skittlethorpe stole alcohol, 3 vapes and £104 in cash, with the stolen goods totalling around £184.96.
A Police cordon was erected around the shop in the hours that followed, with detectives from Newport CID called in to examine the scene. Skittlethorpe was arrested the following day and later charged.
The day before the burglary, on 10th December 2025, Skittlethorpe stole £20.80 worth of alcohol from the Co-op in Ventnor.
His offending also included an incident on 6th September 2025, when he damaged the wing mirror of a Toyota Yaris and threw an e-scooter into a Police car.
During the same incident, Skittlethorpe kicked out at a door which struck a Police officer.
In mitigation, Skittlethorpe’s solicitor told the court that the 34-year-old struggles with drugs and alcohol but has stayed out of trouble since December 2025 and has been seeing his son again.
The sentencing brings to an end a series of delays in the case, with previous hearings adjourned while the court awaited a pre-sentence report.
Skittlethorpe was handed a 12-month community order with a 60-day alcohol treatment requirement and 10 rehabilitation activity days.
He was also ordered to pay £705.79 in compensation to reimburse the victims in relation to the damage at Central Stores and the loss of goods from the Co-op.
