A newly reopened campsite that is looking to become one of the Island’s most exciting outdoor destinations could open all year round to holidaymakers should County Hall grant the removal of 2 historic conditions.
John Perez of Nationwide Lodges has applied for the removal of 2 conditions attached to a 2002 planning consent to rearrange pitches at Adgestone Campsite, on the outskirts of Sandown.
The proposal would allow camping activities for the full 12 months of the year and access to the site via other roads aside from Lower Road.
Adgestone Campsite has been returned to full operation by new owners following a 4-year shutdown by its previous proprietor. The site has seen significant resources invested into an upgrade and recommissioning, according to Mr Perez’s application form.
The application form said:
“Our customer base, from both on and off Island, have consistently enquired about availability to both store their caravans/campers all year round, making them available for last-minute vacations as the climate changes have extended the periods of acceptable camping conditions.
“If we can open all years to vacation campers, we can continue full-time employment to approximately seven plus full-time staff and a range of maintenance contractors.
“This increase in potential customers will bring significant additional revenue to the Island.”

The document highlights that current access along Lower Road, Adgestone, is very narrow and therefore allowing optional access through the park’s lower gateway when needed would alleviate an ‘obvious problem’ with wide traffic along the single-track Lower Road.
County Hall’s public consultation on proposal 26/01310/RVC ends on 23rd October, with a decision is due on 22nd December.
