The British Heart Foundation’s shop in Newport is set to close as part of a major shake-up that will see dozens of the charity’s stores disappear from high streets across the UK.
The charity’s branch at 63 High Street, Newport – which was once a Game store – has been named on an official list of stores earmarked for closure.
It comes after the British Heart Foundation (BHF) announced in June that it was proposing to shut around 150 shops and stores over the next 2 financial years.
Around 90 stores are proposed to close by the end of March 2027, with the remainder expected to follow by March 2028.
The Newport shop is among those included in the first published list of affected locations. However, a specific closing date for the Isle of Wight branch has not been provided.
BHF says the nationwide closures follow a detailed review of its retail estate amid rising operating costs and changing customer habits, which have left some shops and stores financially unsustainable.
The charity has said the changes are necessary to ensure its retail network remains commercially sustainable and continues to generate money for research into cardiovascular disease.
The Newport shop currently sells donated clothing and other second-hand goods from its High Street premises. It has been located at 63 High Street for over 10 years.
BHF says customers can continue shopping and donating at affected stores while they remain open.
The BHF Home Store located further down the High Street is unaffected.
