A number of vehicles have been destroyed and a house has been badly damaged in an early hours blaze in East Cowes.
It was at around 03:00 this morning (Wednesday) that a vehicle fire broke out on Kingston Road, spreading to multiple cars and then to a residential property.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have spent several houses tackling the flames and damping down the charred remains of the vehicles involved – understood to be a total of 6.
At the height of the blaze, orange flames could be seen lighting up the night sky from the other side of the River Medina.
A total of 6 fire appliances have been involved in the incident, which is thought to have begun when a fire caught alight, with fuel running down the road enabling the fire to spread.
The van was parked directly outside an end of terrace home, which has sustained some fire and smoke damage.
A spokesperson for the fire service has said:
“A lot of smoke remains in the area, so nearby residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed”.
