A woman has pleaded not guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving after allegedly reversing into a pedestrian, who sustained serious leg and foot injuries.
60-year-old Kathleen Hornsby, of West Street, Ryde, entered the dock at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court last week (Friday), where she entered a not guilty plea to a single charge of causing the serious injury of a man, whilst reversing her vehicle at a junction on West Street, Ryde.
It’s alleged that the collision took place at around 08:00 on 12th September 2025.
Liz Miller, for the Crown Prosecution Service, told the court how the 60-year-old was allegedly driving a motor vehicle along one side of the road, with the victim – walking his dog at the time – on the other.
It was said that Hornsby, who is alleged to have begun reversing at a junction, ran over the man’s foot, causing multiple injuries to his lower leg, which resulted in surgical intervention following the discovery of a fractured femur.
Kathleen Hornsby was released on unconditional bail and will next appear at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 26th October.
