Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club has welcomed golfers from across the Isle of Wight and the mainland for its annual Ladies’ Open and Mixed Open competitions.
The Ladies’ Open, held on Friday (26th June), saw teams from a number of clubs compete, with Sheliagh Merrifield, Jan Little and Claire Matejowsky, representing Westridge, taking victory with 75 points after a countback.
Finishing runners-up were Sally Hardman, Nicki Moreton and Rose Green from Ryde, while Ella Tusler, Clare Dodd and Kath Tusler from Hayling Island claimed 3rd place with 71 points.
The Best Front 9 prize went to a team from Freshwater Bay, while Test Valley claimed the Best Back 9 award. Emma Page, of Test Valley, won the Nearest the Pin competition on the 9th hole.
Following the competition, players enjoyed a buffet and a glass of Pimms while socialising.
The club then hosted its annual Mixed Open on Sunday (28th June), attracting golfers from both Island and mainland clubs.
Club captain Dorian Cobb and ladies’ captain Vicki Guildford welcomed competitors with coffee and pastries before play got underway.

Ian and Susan Thompson, representing Osborne, claimed the away winners’ title with 41 points following a countback against Mark Royl and Nikki Glasgow from Westridge. Victor and Jean Langley, also from Osborne, finished 3rd with 37 points.
The home competition was won by Shaun Mallon and Julie Miller with 46 points, also decided on countback, ahead of Joe White and Steph Hart.
Chris Harvey won the men’s Nearest the Pin prize on the 9th hole, while Jacky Cook claimed the ladies’ award.
After the competition, players gathered for a buffet and a glass of Pimms, providing an opportunity to relax and reflect on the day’s golf.
