A 38-year-old woman from Sandown has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, drug driving and possession of an offensive weapon after a car smashed into a tree on the main road between Brading and Sandown last night (Tuesday).
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to Morton Common at 21:14 after a Ford Puma collided with a tree, spinning 180 degrees and sustaining significant damage to its front end.
Police have confirmed that a knuckleduster was discovered inside the vehicle following the single-car collision.
The shoeless driver of the Puma was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving, drug driving and possession of an offensive weapon.
She remains in custody at this time.
The incident led to the closure of the main road between Brading and Sandown in both directions, with motorists diverted via Yaverland and Southern Vectis buses also placed on diversion.
The road has since reopened.
