More than £9,400 has been raised for Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight by the outgoing captains of Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club.
The fundraising achievement was celebrated during the club’s traditional captains’ drive-in on Sunday 18th October, when Dorian Cobb and Vicki Guildford presented their chosen charity with a certificate for £9,412.86, raised during their tenure.
The occasion also saw the installation of 4 new captains, with James Lucy taking over as club captain, Jane Wilson as ladies’ captain, Gary Penhall as seniors’ captain and Josh Styles as junior captain.
In keeping with tradition, club professional Peter Hammond invited the incoming captains to drive off the 1st tee, with all 4 rising to the occasion.
Following the ceremony, 25 teams took to the course for an Am-Am Stableford competition, with 2 scores counting on each hole. Teams could also purchase a joker to double their score on a hole of their choosing.
Christine O’Brien, Chris Gould, Jacky Cook and Caroline Warne claimed victory in the ladies’ section and took the overall honours with 101 points.
In the men’s competition, Ian Miles, Steve King, Bob Wilson and Roger Scott secured 1st place with 98 points.
Pat Cavaliero, Ray Winter, Dorian Cobb and Rob Moore finished runners-up with 95 points.
Meanwhile, Sarah Nye, Philip Nye, Ron Elliott and Kathy Elliott topped the mixed section with 93 points.
Looking ahead, the new captains announced that Parkinson’s UK Isle of Wight Support Group will be the club’s chosen charity for 2026/27.
