A Ventnor man who crashed his Honda Jazz into a block of flats after driving with almost 3 times the drink-drive limit has been banned from the roads for 2 years.
Benjamin Scott, of Albert Street in Ventnor, was behind the wheel of a Honda Jazz when it left the road and travelled down an embankment, coming to rest against the brickwork of Victoria House on 6th April 2025.
Police were called to Albert Street at around 19:00, where officers discovered the vehicle at the bottom of the embankment.
Scott was arrested at the scene after providing a positive roadside breath test.
Although a tree was damaged in the incident, both the vehicle and the building appeared to have escaped damage.
The Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court heard that Scott had been driving with 94 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, almost 3 times the legal limit of 35.
Scott, who had initially denied the offence, changed his plea to guilty on 8th October.
He was handed a 24-month driving disqualification. He was also fined £1,260 and ordered to pay £650 in prosecution costs and a £504 surcharge, bringing the total financial penalty to £2,414.
