A block of 4x 1-bedroom apartments may be built on unused waste ground near the Isle of Wight’s prison.
Antony Lewis has lodged an outline application seeking to establish whether a site at Norman Court, Quarry View, in Camp Hill can be used to build a residential building with 4 flats.
The proposed homes are classed as market housing and would have open plan living and kitchen spaces, shower rooms and associated parking.
A submitted ecological report from the Woodside Tree Consultancy says the site includes several large mature oak trees, is near priority woodland habitats and records for a number of protected species.
The document notes wildlife such as hedgehog, reptiles and nesting birds could be affected.
On the back of this, it recommends a developer financial contribution relating to the Solent Recreation Mitigation Strategy which seeks to lessen possible impacts from increased housing development near the Solent coast.
Three Special Protection Areas (SPAs) have been designated for the tens of thousands of birds which come to the region each winter.
Other recommendations include adequately protecting adjacent tree cover on site, a sensitive lighting scheme and installing bat and bird boxes.
The Isle of Wight Council’s public consultation on application 26/01370/OUT finishes on 6th November and a decision is due on 27th November.
