Joedan has announced a new partnership with industry supplier Eurocell as it prepares to begin producing PVC-U windows and doors at its Forest Road site in Newport for the first time.
The family-owned business will use Eurocell’s Logik system to manufacture around 800 PVC-U frames a month initially, with plans to increase production to approximately 3,000 frames a month as its expanded manufacturing facilities are completed.
The first customer-ready frames are expected to roll off the production line next month.
The partnership forms part of Joedan’s wider investment programme, which is expected to exceed £4million and includes the development of a 3.5-acre site on Forest Road.
As previously reported by Island Echo, planning permission was granted in August for a major expansion of the company’s operations, including new manufacturing facilities.
However, it has now been confirmed that Eurocell will play a key role in the development, supplying products and technical expertise to support the introduction of PVC-U manufacturing alongside Joedan’s established aluminium operations.
The arrangement will initially support Joedan’s existing retail business, while opening up opportunities to supply the trade, new-build developments and light-commercial markets.
Greater automation is also planned as production increases, helping the manufacturer improve efficiency and maintain consistent product quality.
Joe Purcaro, Managing Director at Joedan, has said:
“Manufacturing PVC-U at volume requires both machinery and space, and we now have the room to develop the operation to the scale we want. The recent planning approval will support our longer-term growth plans.
“Working in partnership with Eurocell also gives us access to proven products and technical expertise that will help us turn that ambition into a successful manufacturing operation.”
Eurocell has welcomed the partnership, describing Joedan’s investment as a major vote of confidence in UK manufacturing.
David Woolley, Head of Sales at Eurocell, has said:
“Joedan’s investment represents a major vote of confidence in UK manufacturing and the Isle of Wight. It is an ambitious project led by a business with a strong heritage, experienced people and a clear understanding of the markets it wants to serve.
“Joedan has a clear drive to grow, invest and create something lasting on the Island. Our role is to match that ambition with Eurocell’s product and technical expertise, supporting the business through each stage of its development.”
Joedan says its wider investment programme could create up to 150 jobs over the next 3 years, including 30 apprenticeship opportunities.
