A body has been found in the search for missing Island pensioner Ivan Robery Macaulay, who has been missing since last Thursday (1st October).
The discovery was made following an overhead search by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter, which had been circling the area between Bonchurch and Luccombe earlier in the afternoon at around 14:30.
Police had initially been alerted to the East Dene area, between Bonchurch and Shanklin, after a local reported seeing a dark grey Honda Jazz parked in a remote gravel car park near the East Dene estate.
The vehicle matched the description of the car driven by Ivan, who was last seen on Thursday (1st October) in Wootton Bridge. At the time of the appeal, it was reported that he was in a silver Honda, although the vehicle was actually dark grey in colour.
A large Police presence was subsequently established near the East Dene Estate, with volunteers from WightSAR (Isle of Wight Search and Rescue) also involved in the search efforts.
As first reported by Island Echo, the aircraft spent approximately 25 minutes circling the area before departing at 14:56 to return to its base in South Oxfordshire.
Following the search, a body was discovered by a member of the public on Monday afternoon.
While formal identification has yet to take place, his family has been informed.
A file will be prepared for the coroner.
