Ryde Rowing Club’s junior contingent claimed 2 runner-up finishes during a busy afternoon of racing on the River Itchen in Southampton.
The Island club sent a small squad to the Itchen Imperial Rowing Club Junior Regatta on Saturday 3rd October, with racing taking place over a short 450m straight course.
Most events were contested by 3 boats, with heats determining which crews and scullers progressed to the finals.
Ryde’s best results came through Harry Watts, who was involved in 2 composite crews that finished 2nd.

In the Open Boys J14 River Double Sculls, Watts teamed up with Shanklin’s Louie Laider-Jones to take 2nd place in the final.
Watts then joined Shanklin rowers Andri Loboda, Evan Black and Laider-Jones in the Open J15 Coastal Quad, with Jane Denby-Roach coxing the composite crew. They also finished 2nd in their final.

Ryde fielded 3 competitors in the Open Boys J16 River Single Sculls, with Joe Bird, Max Locke and Cameron D’Arcy each finishing 2nd in their respective heats but missing out on places in the final.
Locke and D’Arcy also joined forces in the Open Boys J16 River Double Sculls, where they were impeded by a crew from hosts Itchen at the start. Ryde lodged a protest, but this was not upheld, with the pair finishing 3rd in their heat and failing to progress to the final.

There was similar frustration for Rosie Morris in the Girls J12/13 Single Sculls. She was also impeded at the start, but a subsequent protest was unsuccessful. Morris finished 3rd in her heat and missed out on a place in the final.
