Havenstreet A stunned last season’s runners-up Ryde A with a 10-0 whitewash to extend their lead at the top of the Isle of Wight Table Tennis League.
The comprehensive victory came during a week that also saw all 3 Division Two fixtures end in draws, highlighting just how closely matched the teams are this season.
In Division One…
League leaders Havenstreet A produced a dominant display against Ryde A, with Mike Turner, Mike Bulpitt and junior player Jye Lock all playing their part in a remarkable 10-0 whitewash.
Despite several closely contested games, Ryde were unable to find a breakthrough as Havenstreet extended their lead at the top of the table to 3 points.
There was a much closer encounter between Ryde D and Ryde B, with the B team edging a 6-4 victory.
Cadet player Theo Lewis and Alex Rorke each claimed 2 singles wins for Ryde B, although Mark Turner proved unbeatable for Ryde D, winning all 3 of his matches.

Rorke and Lewis then combined for a comfortable doubles victory to secure the result, moving Ryde B into 2nd place in the standings.
Elsewhere, Ryde C enjoyed a 7-3 victory over Newport Vics A.

In Division Two…
There was nothing to separate the teams in Division Two this week, with all 3 fixtures finishing 5-5.
The closest contest came between Shorwell Sinners and Havenstreet B, where an incredible 7 of the 10 matches went the full 5 sets.
The deciding doubles proved particularly dramatic, with Shorwell eventually taking the win on deuce to secure a share of the points.
Jo Hurt and Carl Rye both won twice for Havenstreet, while Dave Newnham and Guy Golbourn matched their efforts for Shorwell.
The result leaves Havenstreet B just a single point ahead of Shorwell Sinners at the top of the Division Two table.
Wootton Wanderers and Wroxall B also played out a 5-5 draw, with Wroxall’s Gourav Shah producing an unbeaten singles performance.
Shah was pushed all the way to 5 sets by Wootton’s Martin Dove, who won his other 2 singles encounters. Teammate Peter Clarke also secured 2 victories to keep Wootton firmly in contention.
However, Neil Hedges and Jon Steele combined to win the doubles in 4 sets, ensuring Wroxall took a share of the points.
The remaining fixture saw Newport Vics B and Ryde Retailers finish level at 5-5, completing a remarkable clean sweep of draws across the division.
