A Newport woman who told magistrates she stole groceries because she had no money has been fined after admitting shoplifting from B&M.
Amy Beer, 25, of Scarrots Lane in Newport, admitted a single shoplifting charge when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Friday).
The court heard how on the 10th April, Beer – and another – entered B&M on High Street in Newport and stole groceries and cleaning products to the value of £113.62.
Beer has a total of 15 offences on her record and was last in court back in January for a communications offence for which she was handed a community order.
Defending Beer, her solicitor said that her client was “disappointed in herself to be before the courts again” and that she stole the goods because she had no money at the time.
Magistrates fined Beer £80 and ordered her to pay £113.62 compensation. She was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 surcharge fee.
