A loading ban in response to traffic flow and safety concerns of pedestrians has been approved next to Medina House School.
The Isle of Wight Council has greenlit a parking restriction at the School Lane and Highfield Road junction in front of Medina House in Newport.
According to a decsion report, County Hall says it was made aware that vehicles stopping at the intersection are ‘blocking traffic’ and ‘posing danger’ to pedestrians.
The local authority agreed to the loading ban, subject to public consultation, following a site visit with Cllr Geoff Brodie (who has since stood down as an IW councillor), Island Roads and the Isle of Wight Council’s strategic development service manager.
The report said:
“This new restriction was designed to prevent drivers stopping or parking, even for loading/unloading purposes, at the junction; it is aiming to improve the traffic flow and safety in front of the school.”
The estimated cost of introducing the policy is around £3,314.13 which will be funded by the Isle of Wight Council.
