Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club’s Bass Andre returned from Jersey with an impressive haul of 4 gold medals and a silver after testing their skills against top-class competition in beach sprint and offshore racing.
Bass began the weekend in the beach sprints, finishing 4th in the time trial before being drawn against GB teammate Meg in the quarter-final.
It proved to be an incredibly close contest, with Bass missing out by just 0.1 seconds. Despite the defeat, the performance demonstrated the gains being made in the discipline.
Bass bounced back strongly when attention turned to the crew boats and offshore racing.
On the 2nd day of competition, the Shanklin Sandown rower secured back-to-back gold medals in the mixed quad and open quad.
The medal haul continued on the final day, with Bass taking gold in both the women’s double sculls and women’s single sculls, as well as silver in the mixed double sculls.
The weekend provided not only an impressive collection of medals but also valuable racing experience, with competitors having to adapt to different courses and changing sea conditions.
