A man who threatened a pair with a metal pole, then struck and hit them with a vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon among other offences, after an investigation into an assault was launched.
Police descended upon Newport Road, Lake at around 09:35 this morning (Monday) as part of an ongoing investigation into the assault of a man and a woman in Shanklin on 13th August.
Officers arrested a 31-year-old male from Shanklin on alleged charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, and resisting arrest.
A spokesperson from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said:
“It was reported that a man and woman were threatened with a metal pole, before they were struck by a vehicle. They did not sustain serious injuries.
A 31-year-old man from Shanklin was arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, and resisting arrest.”
Police have confirmed that the arrested man remains in custody.
