This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

- Kieran Thompson, 30, of Harding Road, Ryde, admitted a series of theft, fraud and criminal damage offences. They included stealing tobacco worth £23 and an honesty box containing around £15 in Shanklin; stealing a wallet containing bank cards and around £15 in loose change from a vehicle in Newport; stealing a purse containing bank cards, a driving licence and photograph from a vehicle in Ryde; stealing food and drink worth £20.45 from Tesco Express in Lake, washing tablets worth £50 from the Co-op in Shanklin and 4 boxes of Lego worth £275 from B&M in Newport. Thompson went on to make off without paying a £41.90 taxi fare; damaging a television in Shanklin; and several fraud offences involving the use of bank cards belonging to other people. He was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison for the offences, with the sentences running concurrently, although a 10-week sentence relating to one of the fraud offences was ordered to run consecutively to a sentence imposed for breaching a suspended sentence, producing a stated total custodial period of 4 months and 10 weeks. He was also ordered to pay £23 compensation for the tobacco, £100 compensation for the damaged television and £41.90 compensation for the unpaid taxi fare.
- Billy Chilcott, 32, of Waverley Road, Southsea, admitted stealing 2 Monster Energy drinks worth £4.60 from the Co-op and, on a separate occasion, 2 Monster Energy drinks and a pack of cakes worth £5.60. He was fined £40 and ordered to pay compensation of £4.60 and £5.60.
Karen Crews, 58, of Queens Road, Freshwater, admitted being in charge of a Belgian Shepherd called Merlin, which was dangerously out of control and injured 3 people in Freshwater. She was given a community order running until February 2028, including 12 days of mental health treatment, fined £300, disqualified from having custody of a dog for 5 years and ordered to pay compensation totalling £550 to the 3 victims. The court recorded that the dog had already been put down. - Matthew Sutherland, 41, of Fitzroy Street, Sandown, admitted stealing a bottle of ginger wine and 7 cans of premixed gin and tonic from Tesco Express and stealing a family box of Maltesers worth £6.90. He was fined £40 and ordered to pay £6.90 compensation.
Alan Wilson, 38, of High Street, Shanklin, admitted failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements by failing to register a new address within the required period. He was sentenced to 8 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to pay £85 costs. - Steven Hope, 40, of Whitecross Gardens, Hilsea, Portsmouth, admitted drink-driving on Newport Road, Ventnor, after giving a breath alcohol reading of 40 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath. He was fined £1,104, ordered to pay a £442 surcharge and £85 costs, and disqualified from driving for 12 months. The ban can be reduced by 3 months if he completes an approved course by 3 March 2027.
- Valentin Damyanov, 33, of no fixed abode, admitted stealing a case of beer worth £12 from Morrisons in Ryde and a case of beer worth £11 from the Co-op in Sandown. He was fined £40 and ordered to pay £12 compensation, a £16 surcharge and £85 costs.
- Ben Ashton, 44, of Colemans Lane, Porchfield, admitted stealing a DeWalt reciprocating saw worth £700 belonging to the Isle of Wight College. He was given a community order until August 2027 with 120 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £700 compensation and £650 costs.
- Kelli Lewis, 35, of Spanners Close, Chale Green, admitted driving at 35mph in a 30mph limit on St George’s Way, Newport. She was fined £40, ordered to pay a £16 surcharge and given 3 penalty points.
- Ella Furnell, 24, of Colenutts Road, Ryde, admitted drink-driving at Havenstreet after giving a breath alcohol reading of 103 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath. She was given a community order until August 2027, including 12 days of mental health treatment and up to 10 days of rehabilitation activity, fined £80, ordered to pay £85 costs and disqualified from driving for 40 months.
- Ampikaipakan Amirthaligam, 46, of Surrey Street, Ryde, admitted 2 assaults by beating in Ryde. He was given a community order until February 2028, including 150 hours of unpaid work, up to 25 days of rehabilitation activity and 120 days of alcohol abstinence and monitoring. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 surcharge.
- Cain Anglin, 32, of HMP Isle of Wight, admitted assaulting a prison nurse who was acting as an emergency worker. He was sentenced to 8 weeks in prison, to run consecutively to the prison sentence he is already serving.
