A 28-year-old Cowes man has been jailed for 15 months after refusing to provide Police with the PIN and passwords needed to access his mobile phone.
Ainsley Chan, of Pelham Road in Cowes, appeared before Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing last week (Friday).
The charge relates to 19th June 2026, when in custody for an unknown offence at Newport Police Station, Chan was required to disclose the PIN and passwords necessary to access the information on his mobile device.
However, Chan knowingly failed to make the required disclosure relating to an Honor Magic5 Pro mobile phone.
Subsequently, the 28-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence on 27th July.
At sentencing, Chan, who has been remanded in custody for nearly 3 months already, was handed a 15-month prison sentence and ordered to pay a £187 surcharge.
The Crown Court also imposed a 5-year restraining order which prohibits him from contacting a specific individual.
The restraining order will remain in force until 18th September 2031.
