A busy 2 weekends of mainland competition have seen Isle of Wight athletes tackle everything from the brutal Tenby Ironman and Great North Run to open-water swimming and sprint triathlon.
Craig Wilson and Steve Snary faced the notoriously demanding Tenby Ironman on 13th September, battling heavy surf, steep climbs and vocal crowds.
Wilson was returning to Tenby for the first time since visiting as a boy in 1976 and completed the course in 12:53:42.
For Snary, the event marked his first attempt at the full Ironman distance. He produced a strong swim and bike performance but was stopped at around 80 miles after falling foul of a course timing cut-off.
Despite receiving a DNF, Snary has already entered next year’s event for another attempt.
Elsewhere, Kev Downer joined more than 63,000 participants for the Great North Run, tackling the 13.1-mile route between Newcastle and South Shields.

Warm conditions and heavy congestion made for a challenging race, but Downer pushed through the crowds to finish in 2:08 on his 3rd appearance at the event.
Lizzi and Arielle Elton Waters were also in action at Hyde Park, where the pair recorded identical times in the Serpentine 2-mile swim.
Having already completed Highbury Fields parkrun earlier that morning, the pair took on the 2-lap swimming course and both finished in 1:09:29 – a personal best for each.
Paul Edwards headed to Dorset for the Weymouth 70.3, taking on the swim, bike and run disciplines.

After calm conditions for the swim and a rapid bike leg, Edwards endured a difficult run affected by shin splints and what was described in the supplied report as a brief heart arrhythmia.
He crossed the finish line in 5:17, missing his target of going under 5 hours but completing the
