This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

- Lachen Downs, 28, of St Andrews Road, Southampton – admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm on 10th June 2025. He was handed a community order lasting until 18th September 2027 and ordered to complete 70 hours of unpaid work. A further count of attempted wounding with intent was ordered to remain on file.
- Emma Austin, 44, of Lea Road, Lake – admitted breaching a community order by failing to attend planned appointments. The community order was revoked and she was resentenced for a series of shop thefts committed between January and May 2026. She was handed an overall 6-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, with a 30-day alcohol abstinence requirement and up to 28 days of rehabilitation activity.
- Jason Blake, 39, of Barton Road, Newport – was resentenced for offences including assaulting a police officer and a series of thefts from shops. He was handed an overall 6-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, with a 30-day alcohol abstinence requirement and up to 28 days of rehabilitation activity.
- Peter Kirby, 76, of Medina Park, Folly Lane, East Cowes – admitted offences involving indecent images of children, including making 986 Category A images, 1,127 Category B images, and 142,265 Category C images. As well as this, he possessed 5 prohibited images of children and an extreme pornographic image involving an animal. He was handed an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for 2 years, with a 26-session programme and up to 30 days of rehabilitation activity. He was ordered to pay £1,000 compensation, made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and required to register with police for 10 years. The order includes restrictions on his use of internet-enabled and image-storage devices, encryption, private browsing, VPNs and cloud storage, as well as restrictions on contact with children under 16.
- Gary Cooley, 62, of Melbourne Street, Newport – admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child between 18th and 22nd October 2022. He was handed a community order lasting until 18th September 2027, with up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity. His mobile phone was ordered to be forfeited and destroyed. He was also made subject to a 5-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, including restrictions on internet-enabled devices and contact with children under 16, and must register with police for 5 years. He was ordered to pay a £114 surcharge.
- Ian Ochieng, 33, of HMP Wakefield – admitted 2 counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in Newport on 21st August 2022. He was sentenced to 2 years in prison on each count, with the terms concurrent with each other but consecutive to a sentence imposed by Worcester Crown Court on 4th November 2025. He was also ordered to pay a £187 surcharge.
- Paul Dewarne, 61, of Royal Oak Drive, Newport – was found not guilty following a trial of 4 counts of indecent assault on a boy under 14 and a count of gross indecency with a boy under 16, relating to alleged offences between June and September 2001. He was discharged and an order was made for his costs to be paid from central funds, with the amount to be assessed.
- Ainsley Chan, 28, of Pelham Road, Cowes – admitted failing to comply with a notice requiring him to disclose the PIN and passwords for protected information held on a mobile phone. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison and ordered to pay a £187 surcharge. A restraining order, lasting until 18th September 2031, prohibits him from contacting a protected person directly or indirectly except through solicitors, and from publishing, posting, sharing or distributing information concerning that person.

Donna-Marie Fay, 38, of no fixed abode – admitted a series of offences including 4 shop thefts and criminal damage. The thefts involved goods worth £9.30, £22.15, £25.10 and £17.39 from Co-op stores in Sandown and Shanklin. She was ordered to pay compensation for each theft. For damaging a living room window in Newport, she was given a community order until 14th September 2027, with up to 25 days of rehabilitation activity, and ordered to pay £144 compensation.

Emma Austin, 44, of Lea Road, Sandown – admitted a series of offences including burglary of a freezer unit at Waitrose in East Cowes, theft from a motor vehicle, 5 shop thefts and failing to comply with a community protection notice. She received suspended prison sentences, with a total custodial period of 6 months suspended for 12 months. Requirements included 30 days of alcohol abstinence and monitoring and up to 28 days of rehabilitation activity. She was ordered to pay separate compensation of £106.69, £3.30 and £10.75. No separate penalty was imposed for failing to comply with the community protection notice.

Paul Horton, 51, of Hungerberry Close, Shanklin – admitted 4 breaches of a restraining order, including making prohibited contact and attending a prohibited location. He was sentenced to 8 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, with the terms running concurrently. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs.

Tahir Ishaque, 57, of Albert Street, Ventnor – admitted driving with Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol above the specified limit. He was fined £120, ordered to pay £400 costs and a £48 surcharge, and disqualified from driving for 36 months.

Neil Lilley, 54, of West Street, Godshill – was found guilty of driving without insurance, using a vehicle with a load likely to cause danger, using a vehicle without a valid test certificate and, in a separate matter, using a handheld mobile phone while driving. For the insurance offence, he was fined £660, ordered to pay £325 costs and given 6 penalty points, with no separate penalties imposed for the load and test certificate offences. For the mobile phone offence, he was fined £440, ordered to pay £325 costs and given 6 penalty points. The court found exceptional hardship and did not disqualify him.

Amanda Moyo, 41, of St James Street, Newport – was dealt with for failing to provide a specimen for analysis. She was given a community order until 14th September 2027, including 12 days of mental health treatment, up to 10 days of rehabilitation activity and 50 hours of unpaid work. She was disqualified from driving for 17 months, with a 17-week reduction available on completion of a course, and ordered to pay £325 costs and a £114 surcharge.

Cody Dunlevy, 20, of Garden Way, Newport – admitted criminal damage to property. He was fined £123 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £49 surcharge. The court did not impose a restraining order.

Christopher Allen, 54, of Nelson Street, Ryde – admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress in relation to 1 charge. He was fined £162 and ordered to pay £300 costs. A further 2 charges were dismissed after no evidence was offered.

Darrell Howard, 56, of Cross Street, Newport – was ordered to pay £259.93 compensation in relation to a shop theft of men’s clothing worth £259.93 from TK Maxx and £241.49 compensation in relation to the theft of DVDs worth £241.49 from Asda. In a separate matter, he admitted possessing a Stanley knife in a public place and was sentenced to 21 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, with up to 30 days of rehabilitation activity. The Stanley knife was ordered to be forfeited.

Stuart Le Ray, 47, of Birch Gardens, Ryde – admitted driving with benzoylecgonine above the specified limit. He was fined £120, ordered to pay £85 costs and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
- Kieran Miles, 38, of Fort Street, Sandown – admitted using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He was fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 surcharge.
