More than 1,000 restaurant bookings have been cancelled after Low & Slow announced its immediate departure from Cardinals in Brading, less than 6 weeks after opening.
The Texas-style smoked BBQ business, run by chef Matt McIvor, says a breakdown in its working relationship with Cardinals has left it unable to continue trading from the High Street premises.
In a statement today (Friday), the business claimed nobody from Cardinals attended a meeting arranged to resolve ‘ongoing issues’.
A spokesperson has said:
“We’re heartbroken to announce that our time at Cardinals has come to an end.
“We attended a meeting today to try to resolve things, but nobody from Cardinals turned up.
“We’ve faced ongoing problems involving a member of the Cardinals team. From our perspective, their actions have repeatedly undermined what we’ve been trying to build.”
The departure comes just weeks after Low & Slow opened its first permanent restaurant in late September, following years of pop-ups, festivals and outside catering across the Isle of Wight.
It also follows the recent departure of Hungry Bear from the same premises, marking another change of restaurant operator at the Brading venue.
Low & Slow first cancelled service on Wednesday (4th November), with further disruption on Thursday before today’s announcement confirmed the arrangement was over.
The team now faces contacting customers with more than 1,000 outstanding bookings, but says it is determined to continue and is actively seeking new premises.
