Thousands of mince pies will be delivered to homes and businesses across the Isle of Wight this December as the popular Mince Pie Marathon returns to raise vital funds for local brain tumour charity The Wight Brainy Bunch.
Island design studio Brightbulb will once again take to the roads on 9th December, aiming to deliver thousands of pre-ordered mince pies in just 1 day as part of the festive fundraising challenge.
The event, which first launched in 2019, has already raised more than £30,000 and seen over 30,000 mince pies delivered across the Island.
This year’s marathon is aiming to be the biggest yet, with Cowes-based printer Raven Print joining as headline sponsor alongside key partners Wight Productions, Wight Explorer and Starry Wight.
The concept is simple – residents and businesses order mince pies for colleagues, customers, friends or a good cause, with the Brightbulb team delivering every order during the marathon.
A live map will allow supporters to follow the deliveries as they happen, while a leaderboard will reveal which residents and businesses have ordered the most pies.
Money raised will support the work of The Wight Brainy Bunch, which helps Isle of Wight families affected by brain tumours.
Previous fundraising has helped provide support groups, cognitive rehabilitation therapy, counselling, transport for patients undergoing radiotherapy and financial grants for families facing difficult circumstances.
Over the years, Island businesses have embraced the festive challenge in a variety of ways.
Hovertravel has handed out its delivered mince pies to commuters, Carisbrooke Shipping has staged its own office marathon, while pies have also been donated to care homes, hospital staff and food banks across the Isle of Wight.
The event’s success was recognised nationally in 2024 when the Mince Pie Marathon was named Best Charitable / CSR Initiative in the UK at the UK Company Culture Awards in London.
Brightbulb was the only Isle of Wight business represented at the awards.
Kathyrn Grimes, from The Wight Brainy Bunch, has said:
“The Mince Pie Marathon started as a mad idea in 2019 and the Island has turned it into something special. Every pie ordered helps us support families going through the toughest of times.
“It’s also the best excuse we know to knock on doors, meet the businesses that make the Island tick and say thank you.
“So grab your team, get your mince pies ordered and follow the deliveries on the day. Let’s make this the biggest one yet.”
Islanders and businesses wanting to get involved can place their orders at www.mincepiemarathon.co.uk.
The deadline for orders is 4th December, ahead of the marathon on 9th December.
