Known offender Bailey Smith has pleaded guilty to the burglary of a chemist in Ryde, where he stole 4 bottles of designer fragrances.
The 26 -year-old, previously of Ryde High Street, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court yesterday (Friday), where he pleaded guilty to entering Gibbs and Gurnell chemist on Union Street in Ryde on 12th September 2026.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court how Smith broke into the chemist, which was closed at the time, and went behind the counter where he helped himself to 4 bottles of Dolce & Gabbana fragrances to the value of £392.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Bailey was arrested in Ventnor on 21st September after a manhunt saw police officers working tirelessly throughout the evening.
Throughout the search, a police drone and local dog units were deployed to assist officers on the ground, who successfully located Smith near Marlborough Road, going on to arrest him.
Smith was taken out onto the High Street, where he was placed into a police van before being transported to custody.

Today, Michael McGoldrick, Smith’s solicitor, told the Magistrates that following the burglary, Smith has become homeless and urged the Magistrates to adjourn the sentencing to allow for a Pre-Sentence Report to be completed.
Bailey Smith will next appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court for sentencing on 12th January 2027.
He was placed on conditional bail, disallowing him from entering Gibbs and Gurnell Chemist until that date.
