A man whose body was found on a pathway near Binstead Beach had been reported missing earlier that day, an inquest opening has heard.
The inquest into the death of Charles Patrick McNamara was opened at the Isle of Wight Coroners Court earlier today (Friday).
Court heard how on the morning of 28th June 2026, Mr McNamara’s mother filed a missing persons report. Later that day, as previously reported by Island Echo, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were called after the body of a male was discovered on a pathway leading to Binstead Beach.
Cordons were erected between the beach and Ladies Walk, with detectives from Newport CID drafted in. Sadly, nothing could be done to save Mr McNamara’s life.
A post-mortem examination carried out at St Mary’s Hospital by Dr Adnan Al-Badri on the 10th July, gave the cause of death as severe haemorrhage caused by severed left and right brachial artery following self-inflicted knife wounds to the left and right arms.
HM Senior Coroner Caroline Sumeray adjourned the inquest to a provisional date of 29th April 2027.
Condolences were passed onto Mr McNamara’s family.
