2 pensioners are facing a crown court trial over a 3-vehicle crash in Ryde that left a pedestrian with more than a dozen broken ribs.
84-year-old John Lamb of Sidmouth in Devon and, and 82-year-old Nicholas Phipps, of Binstead Lodge Road in Binstead, appeared before the Isle of Wight Crown Court earlier this week (Monday).
Sitting before His Honour Judge Ashworth, the pair each denied a single charge of causing serious injury by careless driving. The charges relate to a multi-vehicle collision that took place at the junction of Cross Street and George Street in Ryde back in May 2024.
It is alleged that Lamb’s driving resulted in the initial collisio, and that Phipps’ driving after the collision caused injuries to a male pedestrian.
Court heard how the involved pedestrian suffered injuries to the scapula and more than a dozen fractured ribs.
At the time of the collision, Lamb was driving a Renault Captur and Phipps, a Kia Picanto.
The pair were granted unconditional bail ahead of the trial on 4th October 2027.
