Callum Knight, who launched a vicious and aggressive attack on his sister’s BMW with a chainsaw, before ramming his own car into hers amid a heated family argument, has pleaded guilty to criminal damage.
The 29-year-old, of Frank Williams Court in Newport, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday (3rd November).
The court heard from Crown Prosecutor Serena Edwards, who said that on 6th August this year, Knight attended his parents’ home address where he knew his sister’s vehicle would be, with the intention of causing damage to it.
It was said that a disagreement had taken place between the siblings and, in an act of revenge committed out of frustration and anger, Knight took a chainsaw out of his boot and proceeded to strike his sister’s vehicle multiple times.
The attack saw multiple panels on the vehicle become heavily dented and damaged.
Following this, Knight entered his own vehicle and drove it into the rear of his sister’s. In an attempt to stop furious rage, Knight’s sister exited the residential address to prevent further damage.
Ms Edwards told the Magistrates that Knight was taken into a neighbouring home where the police were called and he was later arrested.
The prosecution explained that the argument, which began over Knight’s relationship, led him to commit the uncharacteristic offence out of pure frustration and anger and that the case is made more significant due to there being an element of revenge.
Defending his client, Oscar Vincent told magistrates that whislt under caution, Knight was interviewed by police and expressed growing levels of remorse.
Vincent described acute family distress, which he said his client was struggling with, and told the Magistrates of the positive steps Knight is making to mend the relationship he has with his family.
Mr Vincent also noted that following the offence, witnesses told the arresting officers of how ‘profoundly upset’ the first-time-offender appeared and told the court the attack was very much an isolated loss on temper.
Callum Knight has seen his case adjourned whilst probation servicers carry out a Pre-sentence Report. He will next appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court for sentencing on 15th January 2027.
