Wessex Cancer Support is calling on Islanders to give unwanted Christmas gifts a second life by donating them to its annual Unwanted Gift Amnesty, running from 30th December to 30th January.
The local cancer charity is encouraging people to donate new, unused gifts received over the festive period to replenish its raffle prize stock ahead of a busy programme of fundraising events throughout 2027.
Donations can be dropped off at Wessex Cancer Support’s Newport Support Centre, and designated collection points at Asda Newport and Morrisons stores in both Lake and Newport.
Raffle prizes play a vital role in helping the charity raise essential funds, which enable Wessex Cancer Support to continue providing free emotional wellbeing services and practical support to people affected by cancer across the Isle of Wight.
Hannah Dunford, Regional Fundraising Manager at Wessex Cancer Support, said:
“Raffle prizes are always in high demand and make a huge difference to our fundraising efforts throughout the year. Every donation, no matter how small, helps us raise funds that directly support local people affected by cancer.”
“We’re particularly looking for new items such as chocolates, wine, toiletries, gift sets and small homeware items, but we’re happy to consider a wide range of suitable donations. If you’ve received a gift that isn’t quite right for you, we’d love for it to help make a difference to someone else’s life.”
The Unwanted Gift Amnesty offers a simple and sustainable way for local people to support the charity after Christmas, helping ensure that unwanted presents can be transformed into valuable fundraising prizes.
Funds raised through Wessex Cancer Support’s events programme will help the charity continue delivering its range of support services for individuals and families living with the impact of cancer.
