Islanders are being encouraged to recognise NHS staff who have gone above and beyond in caring for patients, with nominations now open for the Isle of Wight NHS Trust’s 2027 People’s Choice Award.
Patients, families and members of the public are being invited to put forward individuals or teams who have provided outstanding care or made a real difference during their experience of using NHS services.
The People’s Choice Award forms part of the Trust’s annual Delivering Excellence Awards, which celebrate the dedication and achievements of staff and volunteers.
Last year’s award was won by Student Nurse Apprentice Karolina Adamski, who was recognised for her exceptional care and the support she provides to patients, particularly those with additional needs.
Karolina was shortlisted alongside 3 other members of staff before being named the 2026 winner.
Her nominator said:
“Patients genuinely adore Karolina. When they see that she is on shift, their mood visibly lifts. They feel safer, happier and more supported simply knowing she is there.
“She is not afraid of challenges and consistently goes above and beyond to improve patient comfort and emotional well-being. Despite being an apprentice, she demonstrates maturity, empathy and dedication far beyond expectations. Karolina does not just care for patients; she makes them feel loved and valued.”
Paul Hargreaves, Chief People and Culture Officer at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, has said:
“Our staff give me so many reasons to be proud, from the expertise they bring to their work to the kindness and reassurance they offer patients and families when it matters most.
“We want to give the public the opportunity to help us celebrate that great care. If an individual or team has made a difference to you or someone close to you, please put them forward for the People’s Choice Award. Your nomination is a chance to say thank you and help us recognise the people behind your care.”
Nominations are open until 11th December, with Islanders able to nominate any individual or team who has made a positive difference to their care.
Entries can be submitted through the Delivering Excellence Awards page on the Isle of Wight NHS Trust website at www.iow.nhs.uk.
Meanwhile, the Isle of Wight NHS Trust Charity is also seeking sponsors to support the awards ceremony celebrating the Trust’s staff and volunteers.
