Young Wightlink Cycle Race Team member Finley Manser-Grundy put in an impressive performance at last Sunday’s Wessex Cyclocross League event in Newbury, securing 3rd place overall in the Under 10s category.
Cold and foggy conditions greeted riders at the event, with a challenging course featuring tight, twisting corners and a long, gradual climb that tested competitors throughout the race.
Having learnt from his previous outing, Finley made sure he was in the correct gear for the start, a decision that paid off as he made a flying getaway.
He entered the first corner in 2nd place and remained among the leading 3 riders during the opening laps.
As the race progressed, Finley settled into 3rd position and gradually opened up a comfortable gap over the rider in 4th.
Maintaining his pace and determination all the way to the finish, he secured a well-earned podium place.
The result marked another positive step forward for the young cyclist, who was delighted to finish 3rd after putting lessons learnt from previous races into practice.
Thanks have been extended to team sponsors Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries, Island Renewables Ltd, Wight Mountain, Rapanui, KReative Studios and Adrian’s Bike Shop for their continued support.
