The Isle of Wight’s ongoing ferry problems have been raised with one of the most senior figures in Government, with MP Richard Quigley told that ‘all options remain on the table’ when it comes to tackling cross-Solent transport issues.
The Isle of Wight West MP met with Louise Haigh earlier this week, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, to discuss the cost, reliability and accountability of ferry services connecting the Isle of Wight to the mainland.
Ms Haigh, who previously served as Transport Secretary, is already familiar with the challenges facing cross-Solent travellers.
During the meeting, Mr Quigley highlighted the concerns regularly raised with him by residents, particularly the high cost of travel, cancellations and what he described as a lack of accountability.
According to the MP, Ms Haigh confirmed that all options remain on the table and that her team is closely monitoring the recommendations of the Cross-Solent Transport Group.
Richard Quigley MP has said:
“I’ve taken the Island’s ferry problems to one of the most senior people in government.
“I told her what Islanders tell me every week: it’s the cost, the cancellations and the lack of accountability.
“Reliable ferries are a lifeline for Isle of Wight residents, businesses and our economy. I’ll keep pushing until we get a fair deal for crossing the Solent.”
The meeting represents another attempt to bring the Isle of Wight’s ferry difficulties to the attention of senior Government figures, although no specific new measures or commitments have been announced following the discussions.
