Young artists are being encouraged to put their creativity to the test as the Isle of Wight Council’s Chair, Ian Dore, launches his annual Christmas card competition.
Councillor Dore is inviting children from schools and home-educating families across the Island to create a festive winter design for his official Christmas card.
The winning artwork will be featured on the Chair’s Christmas e-card, which is sent to hundreds of organisations, businesses and community groups during the festive season.
The competition is open to all children of primary school age and offers budding artists the chance to showcase their creativity while celebrating the magic of Christmas on the Isle of Wight.
Children can draw anything that captures the spirit of the season, from snowy Island landscapes and festive landmarks to Christmas characters, winter wildlife or imaginative seasonal scenes.
Councillor Dore said:
“Christmas is a wonderful time of year and I am delighted to invite children to take part in this year’s competition. Last year was absolutely breath-taking and as you can see, the office floor was covered. As was the desk, various tables and chairs. The Elves helped too.
Article continues below this advertisement “Every year I am amazed by the creativity, imagination and artistic talent shown in the entries. Whether it’s a festive view of a favourite Island landmark, a traditional Christmas scene or something completely unique, I can’t wait to see the designs.
“And yes, I still have the three winners from last year and it was a treat to visit a couple of the schools to proudly dish out the certificates.
“I would encourage as many children as possible to get involved and have some festive fun. Who knows, your artwork could be my official Christmas card for 2026.”
Entries can be submitted by email to [email protected] or posted or delivered to County Hall, Newport. The deadline for entries is 27th November, with judging taking place later that weekend.
Last year, the competition attracted a range of colourful and imaginative entries from across the Island.
Alongside the overall winner, 2 highly commended certificates were awarded, with the Chair visiting schools to personally present certificates to some of the successful entrants.
This year’s winner will receive a certificate from the Chair, with certificates also expected to be awarded to highly commended entries.
