Independent veterinary practice Wight Vets is moving from its Chapel Street home to larger premises in Newport, bringing more consulting space, new diagnostic equipment and free on-site parking for pet owners.
The family-owned practice is relocating to the former British Red Cross headquarters on Hunnycross Way, immediately to the left of Sainsbury’s petrol station.
Its existing surgery at 15 Chapel Street will remain open until 17:30 on Friday 18th September, before the new practice opens its doors at 08:45 on Monday 21st September.
The new premises are around 5 minutes by car or a 10-minute walk from the current surgery and will provide significantly more space.
Among the improvements will be a larger waiting room and increased consulting capacity, which Wight Vets says will give clients a greater choice of appointment times.
The additional clinical space will also allow the practice to expand its equipment and diagnostic capabilities, with new facilities including dental x-ray and doppler ultrasound.
One of the biggest changes for clients will be the availability of ample free on-site parking.
Despite the relocation, Wight Vets says its veterinary team, ownership and range of services will remain unchanged.
The practice will also continue its home visiting service using ‘Voltie’, its specially adapted electric vehicle.
Wight Vets remains independently owned and run by local vets John and Emily Knight.
The team has said:
“Our move simply gives us a better environment in which to provide care to our patients, with more space, improved facilities and the added convenience of free client parking.”
Wight Vets was launched on 3rd May 2022 by John and Emily, who had previously worked with pets on the Isle of Wight for a decade at other practices.
Since its launch, the business has operated from a single-consulting-room clinic in Chapel Street and was named Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce 2025 Start-up Business of the Year.
The practice purchased and transformed the former British Red Cross headquarters to accommodate its growing clientele.
Once settled into the new surgery, Wight Vets intends to hold an open day so members of the community can look around the facilities and meet the team.
The new practice will be based at Hunnycross Way, Newport, PO30 5ZD.
