Runners of all abilities will take to the seafront next month when the popular Sandown and Shanklin 10K returns to the Isle of Wight, beginning at Yaverland Hill.
The annual race, which is set to take place on 13th September, is part of the MCC Promotions 10K Run Series, with organisers saying the event is suitable for faster runners while also catering for all abilities, including those attempting their first 10km race.
The event will start at Yaverland Hill (next to the sailing club) at 10:00, before heading towards the end of Shanklin seafront and returning to finish opposite the Isle of Wight Zoo, following an out-and-back route along Sandown and Shanklin seafront.
The existing men’s course record is 31:50, set by Ryde Harriers’ Matt Sharp in 2023, while the women’s record of 36:50 was set by Ryde Harriers’ Charley Metcalfe in 2017.
On-the-day entries will be accepted at Browns Family Golf and Pluto’s Café on Yaverland Road between 09:00 and 09:45.
Entry on the day costs £19 and includes a bespoke medal.
The event is UK Athletics affiliated, with first aid and water available during the race. A non-secure bag drop will also be available close to the finish line.
Parking is available in the area, including free parking at Browns, while public toilets and facilities at Browns will be available to runners.
Trophies will be awarded to the first 3 male and female runners, with spot prizes also available.
This year’s event is supporting Sport in Mind who is the leading mental health sports charity in England and Wales. Their mission is to use sport to transform the nations mental health as well as use sport to inspire, educate, and promote good mental health.
