Following the success of its first Open Decks event earlier this year, DJ Moomin’s Fruitylicious is returning with a bigger venue and an even greater focus on giving aspiring Isle of Wight DJs the chance to perform in front of a live audience.
The Open Decks event will take place at The Pavilion in Ryde on 12th September between 18:00 and 23:00, with organisers promising a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for both novice and experienced DJs.
Each participant will be given a 30-minute set, with the first 6 slots between 18:00 and 21:00 reserved exclusively for under-18s in a bid to give younger DJs an opportunity rarely available at traditional nightclub events.
The event follows the launch of Fruitylicious by local DJ Moomin, whose aim is to create opportunities for bedroom DJs looking to gain confidence and experience by performing live.
Paul Barrett, an Emergency Care Assistant – also known as DJ Moomin – first launched ‘Fruitylicious’ with an event held at The Castle Pub in Newport on 28th February, which proved a success and demonstrated the appetite for an inclusive platform where aspiring DJs could develop their skills.
He says the initiative is about more than simply playing music.
They believe many younger DJs miss out because the majority of dance music events are restricted to those aged 18 and over, and hope the dedicated early sessions will help nurture the next generation of local talent.

“After the success of our Open Decks event at The Castle Pub back in February, we’ve decided to do another one.
“This time it will be bigger and better at The Pavilion Ryde.
“It’s open to experienced and novice DJs, giving everyone a relaxed, friendly atmosphere to do what they enjoy. Most importantly, it’s about giving opportunities to those who have not had the chance to play at an event, because experience increases confidence.
“The first 6 slots are aimed at under-18s as we believe this age group misses out on a lot of events due to most being 18 and over.
“So here’s to the future of dance music and us old skool supporting the next generation.”
