INQUEST OPENED AFTER YOUNG RYDE WOMAN DIES ON HOLIDAY IN GREECE

An inquest has opened into the death of a young Ryde woman who died whilst on holiday in Greece earlier this year.

The inquest into the death of nursing student Olivia Nicola Hailes was opened at the Isle of Wight Coroner’s Court yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).

Court heard how Olivia, of Ratcliffe Avenue in Ryde, was found unresponsive in a hotel room in Rhodes on the 6th April. Despite the best efforts of Greek emergency crews, the 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem was carried out at St Mary’s Hospital on 30th April, following which a cause of death was given as ‘unascertained’.

HM Senior Coroner Caroline Sumeray adjourned the inquest until the provisional date of the 12th February 2027.

Condolences were passed on to Olivia’s family who were informed of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s (FCDO) involvement in proceedings.
