The team behind Burrs Restaurant in Newport have taken to social media to announce an emotional closure after serving Islanders for nearly 30 years, bringing Burrs’ 49-year-old history to an end.
The family-run restaurant on Lugely Street made the sad announcement this evening (Thursday), beginning by saying ‘a difficult decision’.
A spokesperson for the popular fine dining establishment has said:
“It’s time to sharpen the knives and hang up my apron for the final time.
“As we come into our 29th year of Burrs, I’ve had to make the very difficult decision to close our doors.
“I’ve been wanting to retire for a while now, and due to a change in circumstance and family commitments, the time has finally come to call it a day.”
Burrs officially opened its doors to the public in 1977 but has been run by the current management, serving up delicious fine dining offerings from local food providers, for just shy of 30 years.
Their last day of trading will be 26th September.
The heartfelt message continued, saying:
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to every single customer who has supported us throughout the years. Your loyalty, conversations, laughter and memories have meant more than you’ll ever know.
“And, of course, a massive thank you to all the staff, past and present, who have helped make Burrs what it is.”

too much to dine in, it’s becoming a joke.
This has got nothing whatsoever to do with price, cost or viability.
If only you had just the smallest idea of what it costs to run pubs and restaurants these days you would stop posting such comments.

Will be a sad loss. Have eaten there for years for birthdays & anniversaries & other special occasions. Quality food cooked correctly for a reasonable price. Served on nice plates to tables with clean white linen table cloths by friendly & knowledgeable staff. Wish Matt & his team a happy retirement.
