The Hare and Hounds, once an iconic and well-loved pub, has come to market this week following its shock closure earlier this year.
The Downend pub has been described by marketers, Savills, as a freehold public house made up of approximately 1.6 acres of land which includes a purpose-built private domestic property with 3 bedrooms.
The sale comes just 3 months after national pub chain Greene King confirmed the immediate closure of the 18th-century pub on 28th April, following a month-long consultation period, as previously reported by Island Echo.
At the time, the organisation expressed their thanks to those members of the community who have shown their support throughout the pub’s life, saying:
“Making the decision to close a pub is never an easy one and our main focus is on supporting our team members at this time.”
The property has been listed on Rightmove for £825,000, and boasts 8,137 sq ft of gross internal area.
The Grade II listed building is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the junction between Downend Road and Downs Road.

After the shock consultation period was announced earlier this year, Island Echo contacted Lee Priddle, owner of Robin Hill and neighbour of the Hare and Hounds, following public speculation that the businessman would venture into the hospitality sector to save the beloved pub.
Lee Priddle, CEO and co-owner of Robin Hill, has said:
“We fully understand how much the Hare and Hounds means to the local community, and we would of course love to be in a position to help secure its future.
“However, at this time, we are unable to consider taking on the pub, as our focus remains firmly on significant ongoing developments within Robin Hill Adventure Park and The Adrenaline Zone.
“We have just launched our brand-new attraction, Ride ‘N’ Slide, in time for the Easter weekend and are preparing to open our indoor soft play area, Robin’s Nest, on 2nd May. These projects represent a major investment in the park, and our priority is to ensure their successful delivery.
“While we are not currently in a position to pursue this opportunity, we sincerely hope the Hare and Hounds can find a positive path forward and continue to play an important role in the community.”

This could be great for someone to buy. Right next to Robin Hill Park.
Meals at fair priced. could be a great gold mine for someone.
Bert you are quite right, but so many businesses are
greedy thesedays.
Spoons offer great value for money, so many other
pubs are stinging customers.
PURE GREED is closing them down.
Once again you are making completely wrong statements about subjects you are clearly totally ignorant of EIE. Wetherspoons offers such good value because Tim Martin quickly built up a big chain so he could buy in at prices which the individual licensee could only dream of. Its worse if pubs/ licensees are tied to who they buy from and how much they pay per pint. How do I know? Ex publican, columnist and marketing supplier to 2000 pubs in the south and on this Island. You are entitled to your opinion, Enough, but you really should try to make it an informed one. There are tens of thousands of hard working, desperately worried abd certainly not greedy licensees out there, including on this Island. How dare you malign them so casually and ignorantly.
I cannot applaud you enough for putting EIE firmly in his place. Here is a man with opinions on everything, but for whom ignorance knows no limits. Wetherspoons is a brilliant business which is able to benefit from massive economies of scale – a concept of which EIE clearly knows nothing. Having myself supplied pubs for more than 30 years, I am full of admiration for those who somehow manage to keep going when everything seems stacked against them.
All true. Martin also stated that he wouldn’t have survived were it not for selling unlimited coffee at £1 a cup
So-so true, if only Enough is Enough understand anything
