A former pub, seen to be a popular choice for locals and visitors, The Hare and Hounds, has permanently closed its doors today following a month-long consultation period.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the Hare and Hounds announced on 30th March that the pub was facing a 30-day consultation period, with a number of factors to be reviewed to decide the establishment’s future.
Green King has now confirmed that the 18th-century Down End pub is no longer welcoming customers from today (Tuesday). However, the organisation has expressed their thanks to those members of the community who have shown their support throughout the pub’s life.
Upon the announcement of the consultation, Island Echo spoke to Robin Hill to address public rumours and speculation that the newly reopened park would jump at the opportunity to acquire the neighbouring pub.
However, this will not be the case, with Lee Priddle, CEO and co-owner of Robin Hill, saying:
“We fully understand how much the Hare and Hounds means to the local community, and we would of course love to be in a position to help secure its future.
“However, at this time, we are unable to consider taking on the pub.”

With a chancellor like the last few, the hospitality trade is dying. The goose can no longer lay golden eggs, it is being throttled.
All part of the plan. Agenda 2030
not long to go now.
Please recheck this article Island Echo! Glaring grammatical mistakes. We expect better from professional reporters.
Another English teacher, the island is full of them,
who cares we know what they mean.
but you have to admit, that it is important to speak our language well, and correctly,… otherwise why bother having English as our Language…
Mind you, with the level of command of the English language, exhibited by a lot of people who support Reform,.. I wonder why they’re so anti-foreigner,.. when many of the foreigners can speak English better than they can….
That is so true, majority of them are Brexit numpties
yet they drive Audi’s, BMW’s or VW’s
Lol
“professional reporters”.. Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha
Lost it’s charm over 20 years ago.I think the dreadful amount of traffic in all directions tailbacks more cars, last few years of poor quality food and service has killed it for good.We all have our favorites dairyman’s white mouse the buddle inn are my go too always great service and great food.
Can’t beat the Buddle and what a view.
What chance does any trade stand with a shit show for a government deliberately decimating every business for it’s own gain. Every day a company or business goes down the pan, with hundreds of jobs lost. And then some out of touch thick minister comes out with a load of shit about getting the people back to work
Exactly!! Well said, absolute bunch of cunts. All of them
And we pay their wages, they don’t represent US!
The W.E.F plan is people will own nothing and be happy!
Sorry to hear the downfall of another island pub, but please do not let this building be left to be another blot on the landscape.
It would make a perfect tourism spot with all the parking,
another Arreton Barns style location.
