From solving a murder mystery to enjoying an afternoon tea with a former Royal butler, organisers of this year’s Isle of Wight Literary Festival have unveiled a host of special events to complement its star-studded line-up of authors.
The 15th Isle of Wight Literary Festival returns to Cowes from 8th to 11th October, with household names including Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Amanda Barrie, Celia Imrie, Mary Portas, Larry Lamb and Ann Cleeves set to appear.
Alongside the author talks, festival-goers will be able to enjoy a packed programme of entertainment, food and drink events across the 4-day celebration.
One of the highlights will be an afternoon tea hosted by former royal butler Grant Harrold at the Royal Ocean Racing Club on 10th October. Harrold, who served King Charles III and Queen Elizabeth II, will share stories from his time working for the Royal Family while offering an insight into royal etiquette.
Crime fiction fans will also have the chance to put their detective skills to the test in a murder mystery inspired by bestselling author Ann Cleeves, creator of Vera and Shetland.
The interactive event centres on the murder of a yoga teacher at a community arts centre run by Inspector Matthew Venn’s husband Jonathan, with participants challenged to solve the case.
Music will also feature prominently, with Cowes-based singer and G4 member Mike Christie performing Some Enchanted Evening – The Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein and More! at Northwood House on the Saturday evening.
Television wine expert Helen McGinn will host a wine tasting session on the festival’s opening day while discussing her latest book, Supermarket Wine Guide, which offers advice on choosing wines and food pairings.
Meanwhile, whisky writer Ian Buxton will lead a tasting session on the Friday, sharing stories from his latest book, Whiskies Galore, while guests sample a selection of Scottish island whiskies.
Festival favourites will also return, including the popular Fizz Quiz at the Island Sailing Club on the opening evening and the Write on Wight programme celebrating local authors.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy guided tours of the Royal Yacht Squadron led by honorary historian Commodore David Hughes throughout the festival weekend.

Tickets for the 15th Isle of Wight Literary Festival are expected to go on sale in mid-August.
