Motorists are being diverted away from the scene of a crash on the main road between Sandown and Bembridge this afternoon (Wednesday).
Police, firefighters and paramedics are all on scene at Sandown Road, near to Bembridge Airport.
It’s here that 2 vehicles – a black Peugeot 206cc and a blue Ford Transit – have collided, blocking the carriageway.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash at just before 14:45.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has a critical care paramedic and an ambulance crew in attendance, as well as an operational commander. The extent of any injuries sustained is currently unknown.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has mobilised appliances from Ryde and Shanklin.
B3395 Sandown Road has been closed by Police in both directions between Yaverland roundabout and Bembridge Airport.
Southern Vectis says that all Route 8, Downs Breezer and Island Coaster buses are now on diversion via St Helens.
UPDATE @ 15:18 – Police have confirmed that minor injuries have been sustained in this afternoon’s crash, although fire crews are working to free at least 1 person from the wreckage.
It appears that the Pegueot has gone into the side of the Transit van.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being, with closures expected to remain in place for the next couple of hours.
