Cowes Harbour Commission is inviting residents, visitors and maritime enthusiasts from across the Isle of Wight to attend its inaugural Harbour Safety Day, taking place on 18th July.
Taking place at the Sugar Store, Shepards Marina, Cowes from 10:00 to 16:00, the free event will bring together a wide range of maritime safety organisations, emergency services and local experts for a day of interactive exhibits, demonstrations and family-friendly activities designed to help people of all ages stay safe on and around the water.
With the Isle of Wight’s rich maritime heritage and increasing numbers of people enjoying activities on the Solent each year, Harbour Safety Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of water safety while providing an engaging and enjoyable experience for families.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet and learn from organisations including Cowes RNLI, HM Coastguard, NCI Coastwatch, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire Service, St John Ambulance, Maritime Volunteer Service, Ryde Lifeguards, Royal Life Saving Society, SeaSafe and Flying Fish, among others.
Throughout the day, attendees will be able to explore safety equipment, take part in hands-on activities and gain valuable advice from the professionals and volunteers who help keep local waters safe every day.
Gary Hall, Chief Executive for Cowes Harbour Commission, said:
“Harbour Safety Day is about bringing the community together to learn more about staying safe on and around the water.
“Whether you’re a sailor, paddleboarder, kayaker, fisherman, beachgoer or simply interested in maritime life, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
“We are delighted to be working alongside so many fantastic organisations to deliver what we hope will become a key annual event for the Island.”
The free event is expected to appeal to families, sailing clubs, schools, youth organisations and anyone with an interest in the maritime environment.
