A woman who entered the sea to help a man in difficulty ended up needing to be rescued herself after colliding with Sandown Pier last night (Tuesday).
Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams, alongside a host of resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were tasked to the beach near Sandown Pier at around 20:00.
It had been reported that 2 individuals had got into difficulty in the water.
Island Echo understands that a woman had entered the water to help a male when she too came into difficulty and collided with the pier structure.
Having been rescued from the water and assessed at the scene, both the casualties were taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
