Thousands of sailors and spectators descended on Cowes for a historic week of racing, entertainment and celebration as Cowes Week marked its 200th anniversary.
More than 5,000 sailors took part in the bicentenary regatta, with hundreds of boats competing on the Solent across a wide variety of classes.
The racing was accompanied by an extensive programme of entertainment ashore, while special events were staged to celebrate the milestone anniversary.
Conditions varied during the 7 days of competition, with some of the smaller boats losing a day of racing on Wednesday because of strong winds.
By Friday, bright sunshine and a sea breeze allowed all classes to race as the major honours were decided.
Phil Lawrence, Nick Froud and David King aboard XOD Lone Star emerged as the overall winners after an impressive performance in a competitive 60-boat fleet.
Ben Rogers’ Contessa 32 Solan Goose claimed the Black Group title after finishing level with Sam Laidlaw’s BLT, with their performances in Friday’s final race deciding the winner.
A new Bicentenary Gold Cup was introduced especially for the 200th anniversary, with Andy Maskell aboard High Spirit taking the trophy.
Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club secured the Solent Team Trophy, while Christopher Bake aboard Anteren picked up the Newcomers Trophy.
The young German crew of Stoertebeker were also recognised as the top training boat for young sailors and received the Sustainability Award.
Away from the racing, the bicentenary celebrations provided plenty for those watching from the shore.
On Thursday evening, a 4-plane aerial display took place over the Solent featuring a Yak-52 and Pitts Special performing aerobatics and formation flying, alongside the historic Fairey Swordfish and a Firebird solo display.
The aircraft took to the skies at 19:10 following a performance by the Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Portsmouth on Cowes Parade.
One of the biggest spectacles of the week came on Friday night when the traditional Cowes Week fireworks returned for the first time since 2019.
Thousands gathered along Cowes Parade, The Green and Egypt Esplanade, as well as on the Esplanade in East Cowes, to watch the Bicentenary North Sails Fireworks Display.
Beginning at 21:30, the 15-minute display filled the skies above the Solent with colour as part of the 200th anniversary celebrations.
Across the week, the combination of competitive sailing and shoreside entertainment brought sailors and spectators together for the landmark bicentenary edition of Cowes Week.
Cowes Week will return from Saturday 31st July to Friday 6th August 2027.
